For the Coach -
Coaching Soup for the Cartoon Soul serves as a
valuable bullet-point reminder of proven coaching principles, and a
"significance buster" so that we don't take ourselves too seriously. And we learn more rapidly and retain information more
easily when we are having fun! In this fast-paced society in which we live,
coaches will find this format extremely useful.
Unique coaching approaches and techniques are
mentioned frequently. Page numbers are noted where in-depth discussions about
these tools can be easily found in Jed and Germaine's book, Coach Anyone About Anything: How to Help People Succeed in Business and
Life.
Germaine Porché and Jed Niederer, management consultants for 18 and 25 years, share a long history of coaching executives, managers, entrepreneurs and teams to accelerate business performance. Despite their serious work, they can't help but see the lighter side of the coaching industry. The cartoons were all inspired by actual events. "I sketched many of them as they happened", explains Niederer, the "wrist" or artist of the cartooning duo. Germaine recalls, "One project team actually voted 5 to 4 on whether to send an injured team member a 'get well' card! Occurences like that are just too funny not to capture and share."
For the Non-Coach -
Coaching
Soup for the Cartoon Soul is an
information rich and intentionally quirky 'inside
look'
at the coaching profession.
Clients of coaches will love
seeing a lighter side of their coach's world. And certainly everyone can benefit
from learning the principles of effective coaching.
Opportunities for coaching others lay all around you
- friends, colleagues, family members, and business associates - just to name a
few.
"Jed & Germaine have
created an amazing tool. If a picture is worth a thousand words then they have
assembled volumes of coaching wisdom... and they all fit in your briefcase. I
have already found myself referencing these powerful concepts in several of my
coaching calls and presentations. If you are a coach or coach people in your
work - you MUST have these books. If you have kids you need this book. It is an
absolute perfect life and work companion."

"I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of
my nose." - Woody Allen
Laughter's Amazing
Benefits -
1. Laughter releases
endorphins, a chemical 10 times more powerful than the pain-relieving drug
morphine,
into the body with the same
exhilarating effect as doing strenuous exercise. These endorphins can lead to
a sense of well-being and optimism.
2. Every time you have a good
hearty laugh you burn up 3.5 calories.
3. Laughing for 20 seconds provides the same exercise for
your heart as 3 full minutes of hard rowing.
4. Laughing increases oxygen intake, thereby replenishing
and invigorating your body's cells.
5. Laughter increases your pain threshold, boosts immunity,
and relieves stress.
6.
Laughing and having fun on the job make a positive difference:
a.
Dr. David Abramis at Cal State Long Beach discovered that people who have fun on
the job are more
creative, more productive, better decision-makers, and get along better
with co-workers. They also
have
fewer absentee, late, and sick days than employees who aren't having fun.
b. A survey by Hodge-Cronin & Associates found that of 737 CEOs surveyed, 98
percent preferred job
candidates with a sense of humor to those without.
c.
Another survey indicated that 84 percent of the executives thought that
employees with a sense of
humor do a better job than people with little or no sense of humor.
d.
Fun not only breaks up boredom, it also reduces fatigue.
e.
There is something magical about a company whose executives understand that
happy and laughing
employees are better, more productive, and loyal employees. This magic
is translated into a
productive and financially profitable business.
7. Humor and laughter can
bridge the gap between total strangers.
8. Dr. Georgi Lozanov discovered that laughter and fun
accelerate learning.
"I've always thought that a big laugh is a really loud
noise from the soul saying, 'Ain't that the truth.' " -
Quincy Jones
